Windows security prompt - App password

If a window has popped up like the one below, please read this guide as to how to progress through the login prompt. Please note this only applies to the Outlook Application

You will need to create an app password in order to successfully login via this Windows security pop up, to know how to do this, please see the below steps:

  • Firstly, log in to Office 365, and click your profile in the top left, followed by view account.

  • On the left-hand side, select "Security Info"

  • Select "Add Method" then select "App password" from the drop-down menu, followed by Add.

You should only have to do this process once, deleting the app password within the security settings will mean that you will have to do this process again and may be locked out.

  • Provide an appropriate description that you can use to refer to this app password, for this example, I have used "Office 365", however, you may name this what you want.

  • Click Next

  • Please ensure that you copy the password that it provides you, as you will need to enter this into the windows security prompt.

IF this prompt comes up, your username will be FIRST 4 LAST 4, for example, Steve Smith would be "stevsmit", and the password will be the one you have just copied whilst creating the app password.

PLEASE ENSURE THAT YOU MAKE SURE THE "REMEMBER MY CREDENTIALS BOX" IS CHECKED

Once all of these steps have been followed, you should then be granted access to your Outlook application.
