How to work with multiple displays

If you have multiple monitors, especially if you are using a laptop, you may find that sometimes the displays are the wrong way around or both show the same image.

To fix this in Windows there are a couple of options:

Displays aren't extended/show the same image on both screens.

To fix this issue, press the Windows Key + P on your keyboard. This will bring up a menu on the left of the screen with the following options:

  1. PC Screen Only: As the name suggests, this sets Windows to only use your primary display and turns the secondary one off.
  2. Duplicate: This setting displays the same images on both screens. Useful if doing a presentation.
  3. Extend: This is the setting most people will want to use day to day. This sets both monitors as one big extended one where you can move applications etc. between them.
  4. Second Screen/Projector Only: This setting displays only to the secondary display. Again useful if doing a presentation where you want your laptop or computer screen to be off and only display on the other screen.

Displays the wrong way around in Extended mode

Sometimes Windows doesn't automatically set the displays the right way around. You can tell if this is the case by trying to move your mouse from right to left or vice versa. If the mouse hits a "wall" in the middle then Windows thinks the screens are the other way around.

To fix this open Settings > System > Display. You should then have the option to rearrange the displays to the correct orientation.
